Trip Report: Climbing Waterfalls Along the Spruce Creek Trail (Summit County, CO)

Posted by Alex R. on Aug 20th 2015

While out hiking in Colorado, a “rest day” hike between 14’ers took an unexpected turn and became one of my favorite memories of the trip: I spent an entire day bouldering along the rushing whitewater of the Continental Falls, just off the Spruce Creek Trail in the White River National Forest outside Breckenridge, CO. The Spruce Creek Trail is universally considered to be one of the more accessible hikes surrounding Breck, so I thought it the perfect respite between summit days. The 6.8 mile … read more

Bivouac Eats: Sava’s (Ann Arbor, MI)

Posted by Alex R. on Aug 18th 2015

As we’ve covered before, Sava Lelcaj is the closest thing Ann Arbor has to a culinary Wonder Woman. Her company, SavCo Hospitality, is out to transform the way Washtenaw County eats, cooks, and lives through its maniacal focus on ingredients above everything. The philosophy is simple: when you know where your food comes from and how it got to you, you’re going to choose a healthier lifestyle by doing the things you already do. Trip Report: Canoeing the Huron River (Ann Arbor, MI)

Posted by Alexa W. on Jul 30th 2015

Last Saturday, I went canoeing for the first time ever. My destination of choice? Ann Arbor’s own Huron River! Being from an entirely landlocked and desert state whose only notable body of water starts with “Great Salt”, I don’t have much prior experience with water sports. One time, a friend and I tried to sail a 20-foot boat in a Utah reservoir for an entire afternoon (operative term: tried). Now, I was expected to literally pull my own weight as part of the highly-choreographed test of rel … read more
